From Fragile to Agile – CAS 2019
In Spain, the biggest Agile Conference is called CAS (Conferencia Agile Spain). In 2019, when it took place in Barcelona, I had the opportunity to give a speech about leadership in an agile context.
As you know, leadership is a topic that fascinates me! Now that I have been working as an Agile Coach for the past years in addition to Executive and Business Coaching, I can see there is a need to broaden our minds in the VUCA context.
This was the intention of the talk: to open our minds that there is no one right leadership!
If you’re interested in finding out more about the CAS, check their twitter account.
Presenting at CAS was particularly special for me because my proposal was selected from +800 others. So, with this modest pride, I would love to share with you the content of the speech and some photos & videos.
In my talk, I raised the following questions:
- What do we need of leadership in an agile context?
- Can we learn from existing models to understand who we are dealing with whilst undertaking the digital transformation?
- Who is the leader in you?
- How can you recognize your own leadership first to support leaders within their organizational context?
I focused on the role of the 360 Leader. We all have our own leadership within us, and by recognizing our own authenticity we can step into the empathy of our professional setting.
Authenticity, emotional intelligence, communication and the capacity to influence and act coherently are the nature of all great leaders. I gave examples of great leaders, to bring about individual reflections on:
- Who you are as a leader?
- How are you of service to the top, bottom and side?
- How can you propel your strengths?
- How can you collaborate to expand your abilities in blind spots?
Start with you first, before you step into the relationship. Leadership is not about telling others what to do, but to listen and be an example that can set the stage for people to strive. May that be from the back, front or sideway leadership.
How can we have an impact on an organizational leadership culture as Enterprise Coaches?
Stop Talking, Start influencing.
